Cheltenham finally reopens it's gates to spectators this Friday as the Showcase Meeting gets underway at Prestbury Park with a seven-race card that has plenty of intrigue.

We chatted with West Country trainer David Pipe ahead of Friday's action to get his thoughts on his two runners at Cheltenham.

3:05pm Cheltenham - Siruh Du Lac

"He’s in good form. He unfortunately picked up an injury after unseating in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last year, so he’s still a novice hurdler and we’ve gone down the hurdling route for his first run of the season.

"He’s done all his winning up at two and a half miles at present but we’d like to try him at three miles, you know he’s a top class horse and he’s going well at home, so we’re hopeful of a big race.

"If he gets three miles, then you’d imagine there is going to be some further improvement and he’ll be an exciting horse over three miles over fences."

4:50pm Cheltenham - Elan De Balme

"He’s been a bit disappointing, but he’s in good form at home and our stable amateur Martin McIntyre rides him and has schooled him loads.

"Hopefully the wind-op will help him and the better ground will help him. His last run at Ffos Las, before he had a holiday, was a decent run so we hope he’s got an each-way chance."
