Last Saturday morning, regular bet365 customer Howard Rothwell knew he was only a winner away from a £60,672.90 Scoop6 windfall. It came in the form of his Bonus race selection, Mubtasimah, who stretched away from the field shortly after 2:25pm to land the Maggie Dickson Stakes.
In the morning, Mr Rothwell, who placed his wager through the Bet365 app into our Tote pools, was studying the form while waiting to put his ten-year-old Volkswagen Passat through its yearly MOT. The wait paid off as he added a further £19,701 to his tally from the previous Saturday.
Mr Rothwell said: “I locked myself away on Friday night to study the Scoop6 Bonus race and narrowed it down to four horses. I had to take the car in for its MOT and the wait there gave me the perfect time to go through those four with a fine tooth comb.”
It was quite the process of elimination and resulted in a mammoth win for Mr Rothwell. A family man who lives in London, Howard has been a racing fan all his life and grew up in the Aintree area. He added: “My grandad used to own horses and would have pictures of all the local tracks like Bangor and Haydock dotted around the house.”
Howard has been playing the Scoop6 for many years and a few years ago, came within a fall at the last away from a £200k+ payout. He’s had five horses up in the pool numerous times over the years, but June of 2020 will be remembered in the Rothwell household as the year he finally cracked a big win.
Curiously enough, the VW Passat that Mr Rothwell bought all those years ago came as a result of an £8000 payout from a Lucky 15 bet. Fast forward to last Sunday and he tells us he has already invested in a new set of wheels: “I bought the Passat out of winnings from a Lucky 15 and, having won the Scoop6, thought to myself I have to get a new car this time too. I went into a local Mercedes dealer on Sunday, saw the one I wanted and, yeah, I just bought it.”
You have to admire the pace at which Mr Rothwell set about putting his win to great use.
“I put on the original Scoop6 bet and it came to £96. I usually only stake £64, so it was unusual for me to increase the stake. But I just thought I’ve done it now, so I left it, and they all won.”
That they did - simply fantastic stuff. We wish Mr Rothwell and his family all the very best. Here’s the winning line:
