An undulating, pear-shaped turf course of Greyville is the home of South Africa’s most famous race, the Durban July. Held every year at the track since 1897, it is one of 12 Grade 1s to call the track home. Such is the high regard in which Greyville is held, that Queen Elizabeth II has twice been a visitor to the track, which was Durban’s first sports venue..
Running along the inside of some of the turf is a 2000m Polytrack surface, which has become popular for trainers since it’s installation in 2014. What is particularly unique about Greyville, is that it’s the only Grade 1 track in South Africa not to boast a straight course.
