Wakool
Racecard

Title-chasing Brian Hughes is at Kelso on Sunday as he looks to maintain his advantage over Harry Skelton in the jockeys' championship. A novice hurdle winner at Doncaster last season, Wakool was in good enough form pre-Christmas when making the frame at Carlisle, Ayr and Musselburgh over shorter distances. Back from a short break, this longer trip might help him poke his head in front with the champion rider on board for the first time.

Hitman Fred
Racecard

Hitman Fred scored over further here last month on just his second attempt over fences. Rose Dobbin's charge was always handy and came through to pick off re-opposing front-runner (and teenager) Damiens Dilemma - with Ashjan back in fourth - in that Conditional Jockeys' race. Lorcan Murtagh can make use of his claim here and his mount has scope for better in this sort of company, so is taken to hold sway again despite the drop in trip.

On A Promise
Racecard

Six runners here and a fair chunk of them will be searching for a spark to reignite them. Empire de Maulde was a winner here in December over shorter and should go well again having had a wind operation during his short break but he may do well to hold off On A Promise. Keith Dalgleish's charge chased home the favourite at Doncaster (2m4½f, good) last month on his third start for this trainer and that form has been advertised since. His hurdles form strongly hints he'll do better at this increased distance and he has excellent prospects of scoring here.

Democratic Oath
Racecard

The promise shown by Democratic Oath in his first couple of starts over hurdles at Musselburgh was recognised as he went off odds-on for a Sedgefield novice (2m1f, heavy) in February and his backers never had much to worry about as he made all to win. The second, third and fifth have combined to win all four starts since and an opening handicap mark of 122 shouldn't prevent Keith Dalgleish's charge from adding to his tally now. The increased yardage here isn't going to represent a problem and he's also shown himself at home on good ground, so no fears with forecast conditions.
