About Kenilworth Racecourse

The jewel in the crown of South African horse racing, Kenilworth is not only the country's oldest course, but also home to one of the nation’s most prestigious races. Racing has taken place at the venue, dropped into the heart of the Kenilworth neighbourhood of Cape Town since 1881.

The seasonal highlight is undoubtedly the Sun Met, a race worth over £200,000 in 2020, which has been won by some of South Africa’s greatest ever horses such as Aries, Pocket Power and Horse Chestnut. As well as being an event to look forward to on it’s own, the Grade 1 can also act as a good pointer to the equally prestigious Durban July, with 2019’s Met 1-2 also filling those places in the July.
