Situated in Pietermaritzburg, just one hour from Duban, Scottsville Racecourse is just one of the many attractions on the eastern side of South Africa. When the racecourse first opened, it was nurtured and cared for by farmers with plough and oxen. Locals were also requested to come to the racecourse with their bikes and scooters to ensure that divots were repaired.
The track is an oval, right-handed course with a very steep long run-in of over 550 meters. The long uphill, nearly three furlong straight makes for very exciting races for the spectators to watch from inside the track. Some of you may even remember the racecourse being used as the location to film Racing Stripes.
