What is Tote Survivor?
- Tote Survivor is the newest bet available on the Tote, taking place every Saturday.
- To take part in the Survivor players must pick their most likely winners from six specified races.
- After the first race, any player who has not selected the winner will be eliminated. This continues until there is one player left in the pool.
- Should multiple players reach the same leg of the Tote Survivor pool, the pot will be shared between them.
Winning the Tote Survivor pool
To win the Survivor you simply need to hold the ticket that gets furthest through the six races in the bet. To do that, players must name as many consecutive winners from the first race of the day to stay in as long as possible.
If at any point, there is just one ticket on a winning horse of any race, that player will be deemed the winner of the Tote Survivor and will win the entirety of the pot.
But if any race in the Survivor is won by a horse not picked by the remaining players, all ticket holders who have reached that particular leg will be deemed joint winners and will share the pot, proportionate to their stakes.
Should more than one player name all six winners in the Tote Survivor, then those players will be deemed winners and share the pool.
Choosing your horses
Selecting your horses for the Tote Survivor is a balancing act between selecting the most likely winners, and picking horses who might go under the radar somewhat.
Pick a favourite you think will progress easily, and it’s likely that so too will a large portion of your competition. More winning players through means there’s likely to be a smaller winning dividend when a winner is crowned.
On the other hand, while picking an outsider may mean you need to double or even treble-up your selection in a race meaning a few lost lines before you start, but should that big priced one succeed, much of the competition could fall away.
Multiple lines in Tote Survivor
Players of Tote Survivor have the option of picking just one horse in each race, but can also add more than one runner in any of the six legs.
Doing so increases your total stake, with it providing players with more chances of winning a share of the pool.
To calculate your total stake, just multiply the number of selections in each leg. For example:
- Leg 1: 2 selections
- Leg 2: 1 selections
- Leg 3: 1 selection
- Leg 4: 2 selections
- Leg 5: 3 selections
- Leg 6: 2 selection
2 x 1 x 1 x 2 x 3 x 2 = 24 lines.
What is the Tote Survivor minimum stake?
The minimum stake per line for the Survivor is 50p and you can place just one line if you choose to.
Like all of our bets, the dividend will always be declared to a £1 stake.
Backing the un-named favourite
It's also possible to pick the un-named favourite in any leg as your selection. This means that you'll be on the SP favourite at the time the race goes off.
Backing the un-named favourite can be a good strategy where the betting is volatile and the market could be a good indicator of a horse's chances.
If there are joint or co-favourites, the un-named favourite will apply to the horse with the lowest race card number out of those horses.
