About Vaal Racecourse

Renowned for its friendly country atmosphere, Vaal Racing Club was formed in the town of Viljoensdrif back in 1946, and has become a staple of South African racing ever since.

Not only does the course boast the longest straight in the country, measuring at 1600m, but it is also home to the 750,000 rand Grand Heritage, unique in that the contest can accommodate 28 runners, more than most races in South Africa. To fit the runners across the course, the barrier that splits the outer and inner track is removed to form one extra-wide straight.
