Racecards
Kalyptra
Racecard

Hope You Do and Confirmation Bias are likely to take up a large portion of the betting pool between them in the Wincanton opener, but both have something to prove. The latter has run poor races in his last two starts over hurdles and is exposed enough, while Philip Hobbs' French import folded quite tamely at Warwick in December on his UK bow. The value bet therefore could be Kalyptra for trainer Nick Mitchell. He was too keen at Taunton (2m3f, good to soft) earlier this month on his rules bow, finishing fourth behind some promising sorts in a novices' event. If Tom Scudamore can get him settled, this mission is not so taxing and there's improvement in him.

Danny Kirwan
Racecard

Paul Nicholls maintains a 33 per-cent strike-rate here at his local track and Danny Kirwan should put him on the scoresheet this afternoon. He's been something of a frustrating sort at times, not quite matching the hype that went with him, but he was impressive in landing an Ascot maiden hurdle (2m3½f, soft) in November and can be forgiven defeats in a pair of graded contests at Cheltenham and Ascot since. Sights are lower significantly here and he's got outstanding claims on ratings.

Sashenka
Racecard

Sweet Adare has the best form in the book but, even allowing for Angus Cheleda claiming 7lb off her back, she's conceding weight all round and that might prove too much in taking on Sashenka for Michael and Tom Scudamore here. She's three years younger than her main market rival and surely would have scored last time at Catterick bar a late fall when probably just a bit too careful at the hurdle. She was unlucky at the same track previously (impeded late on) and her C&D second to now 138-rated Little River Bay in November suggests she's up to this.

Frankincense
Racecard

Frankincense is re-united with Harriet Tucker for the first time since their Exeter (2m1f, good to soft) success together in November and more glory could await. The Galileo gelding was runner-up at Warwick on testing ground in January and finished fourth most recently at Taunton (2m3f, soft) this month. The ex-Ballydoyle inmate has not proved entirely straightforward at times since joining this trainer but Tucker got the best from him in that November success. He's got form on quicker ground from his time in Ireland and should have no bother staying this new trip.

About Wincanton Racecourse

The local course for Champion Trainer, Paul Nicholls, the Ditcheat handler has a better at Wincanton than most. A multiple winner of the venue’s seasonal highlights, the Badger Ales Trophy and the Elite Hurdle, Nicholls is a man to follow in Somerset.

With a relatively short home straight, frontrunners can also be worth siding with at Wincanton, with those at the back of the pack given less chance than usual to make up ground late on.
