Top tipster Kevin O’Malley is focusing on Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot this week. You can find his best ITV Racing bets below, with some value picks to look forward to on a top class afternoon of racing ahead.

Take on King Strad with improving Trueshan

Stradivarius is the undisputed King of staying, but he’s not getting any younger and doesn’t come into this race in the most convincing of form. The dark horse in the field is Alan King’s Trueshan. This improving 4yo stayer was well fancied for the Ebor and things didn’t go his way, but he’s better than and proved it when an impressive win at Salisbury last time.

Trueshan is going the right way, he stays well and should give a good account of himself at decent odds.

Varian’s Byron to strike in Sprint Stakes

Cape Bryon hasn’t been seen since finishing down the field in this race last year, but Roger Varian’s charge is a live wire in the field. He went off at 9/1 for the race then, having beaten eventual winner Donjuan Triumphant easily in his build-up race. Cape Byron has top form, goes well fresh and definitely shouldn’t be overlooked here.

Dream Of Dreams will be hard to beat and One Master is respected, but Cape Byron is the value call in the 1:55pm.

Sir Busker can hit the frame in QEII

Sir Busker failed to fire in the Cambridgeshire when racing on the wrong side, but it was a run best ignored and William Knight’s charge returns to his favoured track at Ascot today. A horse with superb speed figures in top handicaps, he is up against it here but with conditions to suit, he could hit the frame at big odds under Oisin Murphy.

Could Japan finally have his say?

Japan enjoyed a brilliant 2019. He beat Crystal Ocean to win the Juddmonte International, won the Grand Prix de Paris and was an impressive winner at Royal Ascot. He’s yet to reproduce any of that form in 2020, but could he finish off the season with a big run here in the Champion Stakes? It seems unlikely, but Japan is a top horse on his day and this drop to 1m2f at a track we know he likes could spark a revival.
